Pathologist Assistant (Gross Room Tech)
Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Setting: Hospital Surgical Pathology Laboratory
We are seeking an experienced Pathologist Assistant (Gross Room Tech) to join a busy Surgical Pathology team. This role is responsible for the examination and preparation of complex surgical specimens in a hospital laboratory environment. The ideal candidate will have strong pathology expertise, experience in specimen dissection and gross examination, and the ability to work independently while maintaining the highest standards of quality and accuracy.
Responsibilities
- Perform gross examination of complex surgical specimens.
- Dissect, describe, and section tissues for histologic preparation.
- Conduct specimen photography and radiography as needed.
- Ensure proper specimen handling, identification, and documentation.
- Follow established laboratory protocols and quality standards.
- Collaborate with pathologists and laboratory staff to support diagnostic services.
Requirements
- Certified Pathologist Assistant (PA) through ASCP or another approved certifying agency.
- Prior hospital pathology experience required.
- Strong knowledge of grossing techniques, anatomy, and specimen processing.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Education
One of the following is required:
- Graduation from a NAACLS-accredited Baccalaureate or Post-Baccalaureate Pathologist Assistant Training Program with ASCP BOR certification, or
- Bachelor's degree with a major, minor, or equivalent coursework in biological sciences or allied health sciences and meeting applicable certification requirements.
