Position Overview
- The Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) is seeking experienced Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs)/Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) to provide quality nursing care for individuals with developmental disabilities within a correctional healthcare setting.
- The selected candidates will deliver direct patient care, administer medications and specialized treatments, maintain accurate clinical documentation, and collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care under the supervision of Registered Nurses, physicians, and other licensed healthcare providers.
- Administer prescribed medications, including insulin, while following established clinical protocols.
- Perform G-Tube and J-Tube feedings and monitor patient response to nutritional therapies.
- Administer respiratory treatments and provide tracheostomy care, including suctioning procedures.
- Monitor, assess, and document patient conditions, vital signs, treatments, and responses to care.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements.
- Communicate changes in patient condition effectively with members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Assist in implementing individualized care plans to promote optimal patient outcomes.
- Maintain infection prevention standards and ensure a safe therapeutic environment.
- Perform additional nursing duties as assigned to support facility operations and patient care.
Work Schedule & Conditions
- Various shifts available: 6AM-2PM, 2PM-10PM and 10PM-6AM EST
- Shift duration: 8–12 hours
- Full-time and Part-time opportunities available.
- Overtime: Not required.
- Travel: Not required.
- Work on New York State Holidays: Required.

Qualifications & Requirement
- Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in good standing.
- Experience caring for individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Demonstrated experience with: Medication administration, including insulin, G-Tube and J-Tube feedings, Respiratory treatments, Tracheostomy care and suctioning.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent clinical documentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
