Respiratory Therapist – Travel Assignment
Location: Wisconsin
Start Date: 08/18/2026
Contract: 13 Weeks
Shift: Nights – 3×12-hour shifts
Shift Time: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Weekend: Every other weekend
Holiday: Rotating holiday schedule
 

Position Overview

Care Career is seeking an experienced Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) for a 13-week travel assignment. The Respiratory Therapist will provide comprehensive cardiopulmonary care, respiratory treatments, mechanical ventilation management, emergency respiratory support, and patient/family education.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with invasive and non-invasive ventilation, adult and pediatric respiratory care, emergency response, airway management, and critical-care respiratory services.
 

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program
  • Education verification required
  • Current Wisconsin Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license
  • Current RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist credential through NBRC
  • Current AHA Provider Level BLS
  • Current NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program
  • Active state license required at the time of assignment

Schedule

  • 3×12-hour night shifts
  • 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Every other weekend
  • Rotating holiday schedule
  • 13-week contract

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine respiratory therapies for the treatment, diagnosis, and evaluation of cardiopulmonary conditions.
  • Conduct emergency rounds, oxygen saturation checks, and titrate oxygen according to established protocols.
  • Initiate, monitor, evaluate, and wean invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
  • Assess patients and recommend appropriate respiratory therapies, treatment changes, frequencies, and duration based on clinical findings.
  • Administer medications and oxygen through therapist-driven protocols.
  • Assess patients before and after medications, procedures, and respiratory devices.
  • Educate patients and families regarding respiratory therapies, medications, treatment goals, and equipment.
  • Document patient assessments, treatments, response to therapy, and ongoing respiratory care.
  • Set up, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot mechanical ventilators and non-invasive ventilation devices.
  • Demonstrate competency with therapeutic bronchoscopies and pulmonary function screening.
  • Clean, disinfect, assemble, and maintain respiratory equipment and departmental supplies.
  • Respond to emergency and code situations and assist with chest compressions, airway management, airway stabilization, and ventilator support according to AHA guidelines.
  • Transport critically ill adult patients on mechanical ventilation or non-invasive ventilation for procedures and diagnostic testing.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate respiratory care to pediatric and adult patients when assigned.
  • Participate in community education, in-services, continuing education, and professional development activities.
