Shift: Nights + Call
Schedule: 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
Contract: 13 weeks
 

Position Overview

The Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to adult patients in a Med-Surg, Observation, and Telemetry/Step-Down environment. The RN is responsible for patient assessment, medication administration, monitoring, care planning, documentation, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Candidates should be comfortable caring for telemetry patients and working within established nurse-to-patient ratios.
 

Key Responsibilities

• Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to Medical-Surgical, Observation, and Telemetry patients.
• Assess patient conditions, identify changes in status, and initiate appropriate interventions.
• Monitor telemetry patients and promptly communicate significant changes or abnormal findings.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care.
• Administer medications safely and accurately according to physician orders and facility policy.
• Operate and manage Alaris IV pumps and other clinical equipment.
• Utilize Omnicell for medication management.
• Document assessments, interventions, medications, and patient responses accurately in the Meditech EMR.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
• Provide patient and family education.
• Maintain patient safety, infection-control standards, and regulatory compliance.
• Respond appropriately to changes in patient acuity and clinical condition.
• Participate in call coverage when assigned or when offered during low-census periods.

Patient Ratios

• Med-Surg/Observation: 1 RN : 6 patients
• Step-Down: 1 RN : 4 patients

Required Experience

• Recent Medical-Surgical nursing experience required.
• Recent Telemetry experience required.
• Step-Down experience is preferred but not required.
• Strong assessment, prioritization, medication-administration, and clinical decision-making skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced night-shift environment.

Required Certifications & Licensure

• Current, active RN state license.
• BLS/BCLS required.
• General certification requirements may include:
  • ACLS
  • BLS/BCLS
  • PALS

Equipment & Systems

Experience with the following is preferred:

• Meditech EMR
• Alaris IV pumps
• Omnicell medication dispensing system
• Telemetry monitoring systems

Schedule & Call

• Night shift: 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
• Set schedules.
• Call may be offered during periods of low census as part of a rotation with full-time staff.
• Travelers may be required to participate in call when applicable.

Traveler Requirements

• 100-mile radius rule: Travelers must have a permanent address at least 100 miles from the hospital.
• Flu vaccine is required with no exceptions.
• RTO requests are limited to 3 days per 13-week contract.
• Facility may cancel up to 3 shifts per 13-week assignment due to low census or other circumstances.
• Guaranteed hours do not apply to facility-canceled shifts.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced Med-Surg/Telemetry RN who is comfortable working 7 PM–7 AM, managing a 1:6 Med-Surg/Observation ratio, and caring for higher-acuity patients in a 1:4 Step-Down setting when needed. Strong telemetry skills, clinical judgment, and familiarity with Meditech, Alaris pumps, and Omnicell are highly desirable.
