🔬 Key Responsibilities

The CLS will perform a broad range of Blood Bank and clinical laboratory functions while maintaining strict quality, safety, and patient-identification standards.

Blood Bank / Transfusion Services

  • ABO/Rh typing and antibody screening & identification
  • AHG crossmatching
  • Immediate-spin and IgG crossmatching
  • Electronic crossmatching
  • Antibody identification and typing
  • Antigen typing
  • Direct antiglobulin testing (DAT/Direct Coombs)
  • Indirect Coombs testing
  • Cold agglutinin testing
  • Rhogam screening
  • Cord blood evaluation
  • Blood product thawing, cooling, storage and handling
  • Transfusion reaction workups
  • Component modification
  • Blood specimen processing and accessioning

Laboratory Operations

  • Accurate specimen receipt, collection, labeling and transport
  • Pipetting and specimen handling
  • Reporting laboratory test results
  • Maintaining proper blood specimen storage conditions
  • Following quality assurance and quality control procedures
  • Proper hazardous material handling and disposal
  • Compliance with transmission-based precautions and laboratory safety standards
  • Maintaining accurate patient identification throughout the testing and transfusion process

  • Recent/current Blood Bank experience required
  • Multiple previous travel assignments in Blood Bank required
  • Seasoned traveler – first-time travelers are not accepted
  • Large hospital experience required (300+ beds)
  • Experience in a high-volume Blood Bank environment
  • Trauma Level I experience required
  • Trauma Level II experience required
  • Epic experience required
  • Must be comfortable working independently on nights
  • Must be able to confidently manage high-volume Blood Bank responsibilities with minimal supervision
  • ASCP-BB certification required
  • Clinical Immunohematology Scientist certification preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Community hospital experience preferred

🗓️ Schedule Details

  • 4Ă—10-hour night shifts
  • Regular start time: 9:30 PM
  • Start time may flex to approximately 8:00 PM based on operational needs
  • Rotating weekends and holidays
  • Weekend coverage may occasionally exceed every-other-weekend based on department needs
  • No scheduled call
  • No floating
  • Scheduling requests related to outside employment cannot be accommodated
  • Any requested time off must be submitted at the time of application
