Travel RN – Behavioral Health / Psychiatry | Kansas City, MO

Facility: Research Psychiatric Center
Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Address: 2323 E. 63rd Street
Schedule: 12-hour shifts
Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours guaranteed is available as an option
 

Required to Submit

  • Active Blue Card CPI — required at submission
  • BLS
  • CPI

Units

Travelers may work across multiple behavioral health units based on facility need:

  • ADOL: 18 beds | Ages 12–18
  • Serenity: 24 beds | Lower-acuity adult behavioral health
  • ITU: 32 beds | Higher-acuity adults, including thought disorders
  • SRAD: 16 beds | Senior lifestyle / geriatric behavioral health population
  • VINE: 9 beds | Lower-acuity adult behavioral health

Ratios

  • RN: approximately 1:8
  • Mental Health Tech: approximately 1:12

EMR

  • Meditech

Scheduling

  • Facility requires coverage for 3x12-hour shifts daily, seven days per week
  • Weekend availability is required based on scheduling needs
  • Days off are not guaranteed unless written into the contract
  • No on-call requirement

Floating

Travelers may float between behavioral health units based on the greatest staffing need.

Required Psych Experience / Skills

Candidates should be comfortable with:

  • Psychiatric and behavioral health assessment
  • Identifying psychiatric disorders, substance-use concerns, and behavioral changes
  • Developing individualized behavioral health care plans
  • Administration and monitoring of psychotropic medications
  • Recognizing medication side effects and adverse reactions
  • Crisis intervention
  • Suicidal ideation and safety management
  • Aggressive or escalating patient behaviors
  • De-escalation techniques
  • Therapeutic communication and rapport building
  • Monitoring mental status, psychological symptoms, vital signs, and medication response

Patient Experience Expectations

Facility follows HCA patient-experience standards, including ICARE values and AIDET communication practices.

 

Dress Code

  • RNs: Blue scrubs
  • Mental Health Techs: Green or black

The biggest submission requirement is the active Blue Card CPI, which must already be in place before submission.
