CVICU RN – Level I Trauma | Days

Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Schedule: 12-hour days
Weekends: Every other weekend / 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
Call: None
Floating: Required — travelers should expect to be first to float based on competency
EMR: Epic required
Trauma: Level I Trauma
BSN Required: No
Scrubs: Teal

Unit Details

• 8A: 12 beds
• 8B: 13 beds
• High-acuity cardiac ICU
• Ratios: Typically 1:2, occasionally 1:1
• Charge RN often carries a patient assignment
• 1 PCA on the floor
• Intensivist model
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
• Hardwired cardiac monitoring; RNs interpret strips

Patient Population

High-acuity cardiac and transplant patients, including:

• Heart transplants
• Lung transplants
• LVAD patients
• CABG / ACB patients
• Valve surgery patients
• Complex postoperative cardiac patients

Devices & Critical Care Skills

RN should be comfortable with:

• LVAD
• Impella
• IABP
• CRRT / SLED
• Titration of vasoactive medications
• Management of multiple cardiac drips
• Mechanical ventilation and other ICU-level support

CRRT experience is preferred. The facility may train candidates who otherwise have strong ICU experience.

Requirements

• Experienced ICU RN
• Epic experience required
• ACLS
• BLS
• NIHSS
• Must be comfortable titrating vasoactive drips
• Must be flexible with scheduling
• No self-scheduling
• Must be willing to float

Ideal Candidate

Past successful travelers typically have:

• 3+ years of ICU experience
• Previous travel experience
• Experience in a large, very busy hospital
• Strong cardiac ICU background
• CRRT experience

Orientation

• 2–3 shifts with a preceptor

Recruiter Notes

This is a high-acuity CVICU at a large Level I Trauma center. Strongest candidates will have recent CVICU experience with LVAD, Impella, IABP, CRRT/SLED, cardiac surgery patients, vasoactive drips, and Epic.

Main submission considerations: Epic is required, floating is mandatory, scheduling flexibility is important, and this facility strongly favors seasoned ICU travelers from busy tertiary/Level I environments.
