Step into a highly specialized Pediatric Congenital Cardiac ICU caring for patients with complex congenital heart conditions and critical-care needs.

The unit features 10 beds and partners closely with the PICU, giving nurses access to additional resources and support throughout their shifts.

You'll work alongside a highly experienced nursing team averaging approximately 10 years of nursing experience, with a strong focus on:

  • Patient safety
  • Evidence-based practice
  • Quality improvement
  • Prevention and quality metrics
  • Team collaboration
  • Family-centered care

The physician team includes board-certified pediatric and congenital heart intensivists who work closely with nurses and the interdisciplinary team to deliver compassionate, high-level critical care.

 

🩺 Patient Population & Clinical Experience

This assignment provides valuable exposure to a complex congenital cardiac and pediatric critical-care population.

You may care for patients requiring:

  • Post-operative congenital cardiac care
  • Continuous inotropic and vasopressor infusions
  • IV fluid management
  • Chest tube management
  • Post-sternotomy care
  • Open-chest patient management
  • Moderate sedation
  • Advanced cardiac critical-care monitoring
  • Complex multidisciplinary treatment

The unit also serves as an ECMO Center, supporting complex medical neonatal and cardiac patients.

 

🚨 Advanced Equipment & Technology

Gain experience with advanced critical-care technologies and equipment, including:

  • ECMO
  • Centrimag
  • PrisMax
  • Arctic Sun
  • Phillips patient monitors
  • Medfusion pumps
  • Baxter pumps

Preferred Advanced Skills

Candidates with experience in the following will be especially valued:

  • ECMO bedside experience
  • CRRT

Must Have

  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Critical Care experience
  • Current RN license
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS certification
  • PALS certification
  • Strong critical-thinking and clinical assessment skills
  • Ability to confidently care for high-acuity patients

  • Pediatric CVICU / Cardiac ICU experience
