Kapaa is located in the eastern region of Kauai just north of Lihu, with the Sleeping Giant formation in the Nounou Mountain range looming above. It boasts beautiful beaches, often less crowded than others on the island, such as Kealia, a long stretch of white sand beach perfect for strolling and whale watching during the winter. Visitors and locals enjoy multiple eateries, but Kapaa may be best known as a top shopping destination. Its popular Kinipopo Shopping Village has everything from fine art and jewelry to Aloha shirts. Wailua Shopping Plaza houses an antique shop and numerous restaurants, while dozens of shops at the Coconut Marketplace offer antiques, handcrafted items and artwork. The town also hosts live music, food and vendors selling local crafts on the first Saturday of every month.
