Shift Matrix: Varied Leadership Shifts (Exempt/Administrative Schedule | On-Call Responsibilities)

  • Administrative Scope: Assumes full operational leadership of nursing services and acts as Facility Administrator in their absence.
  • On-Call Requirement: On-call for the nursing department; manages and oversees the overall executive on-call schedule.
  • Facility Call-Off Policy: Facility is permitted to call off/cancel up to three (3) shifts per 13-week assignment.

    Guaranteed Hours: 40 Hours Per Week

🚫 Absolute Minimum Qualifications & Administrative Hardstops:

  • Licensure Mandate: Active, unencumbered Maine (ME) State RN License or eNLC Compact RN License held in hand at submission.
  • Experience Baseline: Minimum 3+ years of clinical nursing experience (5+ years in management/leadership and long-term care/acute rehab strongly preferred).
  • Traveler Distance Policy: Must reside 50+ miles from the facility (Strict travel rule).
  • Core Certification Desired: Active BLS/BCLS certification.
  • Academic Baseline: Graduate of an accredited nursing program (BSN preferred).
  • Submission Limit: Maximum 3 submissions per job opening.

Job Summary & Leadership Scope

A facility in Bangor, ME is seeking an experienced, executive-level Director of Nursing (DON) for a 13-week contract assignment. The DON holds administrative authority and accountability for planning, directing, and controlling all nursing care across the facility in compliance with state, federal, and company standards.

  • Clinical & Quality Governance: Establish, implement, and evaluate nursing standards, policies, and quality improvement (QA) initiatives; monitor medical record compliance, open/closed chart audits, and infection control measures.
  • Staffing & Operations Management: Oversee all licensed and non-licensed nursing personnel, manage master scheduling, maintain appropriate staffing ratios, authorize overtime, and resolve employee conflicts.
  • Interdisciplinary & Facility Leadership: Collaborate with the Medical Director, Admissions Director, Case Management, and Pharmacy to streamline resident care plans, admissions, and medication safety.
  • Regulatory & Budgetary Oversight: Direct survey readiness, maintain compliance with federal/state LTC regulations, assist with nursing budget planning, and report directly to the Administrator and Board of Directors.
