Registered Nurse — Surgical ICU
Location
- Peoria, Illinois
Contract
- 13 weeks
- Nights
- 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
- BLS
- ACLS
- ICU experience
- Level I trauma experience
Unit Details
- Surgical ICU with 13 beds
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2, with possible ratios of 1:1 or 1:3
- Common patient types include post-surgical, open abdomen, multisystem trauma, and endovascular cases
- Nurses are required to titrate drips
- Common drips include pressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin
- Charge nurse support is available, and a house supervisor is on site 24/7
- Patient care tech support is available at a ratio of 1:10
- Intensivist coverage is in house approximately 0700–1900, with telemedicine intensivist support and an attending on call
- Respiratory therapy is in the ICU 24/7
- Nurses are responsible for reading and interpreting telemetry strips
Schedule and Expectations
- Weekend requirement: 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week period
- Holiday requirement: every other holiday
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating may occur to lower levels of care, where the nurse would take a full assignment
Orientation
- 12 hours of non-billable orientation
- Unit-specific orientation includes EPIC training, educator time, shadowing, and preceptor time
Additional Notes
- Local placements within a 50-mile radius are accepted
- Drug screen required
- No specific scrub color is required
