Description
Registered Nurse – Emergency Department / ER Float
Location: Denver, Colorado – Zone 3
Contract: 13 Weeks
Shift: 12-Hour Shifts
Schedule: Flexible; including weekends & holidays
Weekly Scheduling: Schedule released 4–6 weeks in advance
Float Requirement: Mandatory throughout Zone 3
Orientation: 2–3 days unit/department-specific
Scrub Color: Navy Blue
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse – Emergency Department (ED/ER) for a 13-week travel assignment in Zone 3, based around Denver City Center. Travelers must be comfortable floating between multiple facilities within the designated 60-mile zone and working in a variety of Emergency Department environments based on facility needs.
This position offers exposure to high-acuity emergency care, trauma, STEMI and stroke-receiving facilities, with patient populations ranging from medical emergencies to trauma and critical conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of recent ED/ER nursing experience – Required
- Active RN license
- BLS – Required
- ACLS – Required
- PALS – Required
- NIHSS – Required
- TNCC – Required
- Ability to float throughout the assigned Zone 3
- Strong emergency assessment, triage and critical-thinking skills
- Must be comfortable interpreting telemetry independently
- Must be able to perform Point-of-Care (POC) testing after training
- Valid driver's license must be submitted with profile
Emergency Department Details - Department: ER/ED Float
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4–5, based on acuity
- Daily ER Volume: Approximately 40–168 patients/day, depending on facility
- Trauma: Varies; includes Trauma Level III facilities
- STEMI/Stroke: Majority of receiving facilities support STEMI and stroke patients
- Patient Population: Abdominal pain, diabetes, NSTEMI, pneumonia, trauma, stroke, hypertension and other emergency conditions
- ER Holds: Mixed within the Emergency Department
- Psych/Seclusion Rooms: No separate rooms
- Fast Track: Varies by facility
- Triage: Varies by location; travelers may be required to assist with triage
- Charge Nurse: Charge nurses may take a patient assignment
- RT Coverage: Available 24/7
- Telemetry: No dedicated monitor tech; RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry
- Lab Testing: RNs will receive training and perform Point-of-Care testing
- Support Staff: Techs assist with unit secretary duties, floor support and triage
Scheduling
- 12-hour shifts
- Leadership creates schedules approximately 6 weeks at a time
- Travelers must remain flexible and assist with permanent staffing gaps
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend OR equivalent number of weekends (approximately 6–9 within a 6-week scheduling period)
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- No call/standby requirement
Scheduling Options
- Option A – Standard Scheduling
- Traveler is scheduled at one facility for the week
- May float within that facility as needed
- Option B – Just-In-Time (JIT) Scheduling
- Facility assignment may be provided 1–2 hours before the shift starts via phone call
Attendance & Contract Requirements
- Travelers may not miss more than 3 shifts during the 13-week contract
- Missed shifts may be made up at the beginning and/or end of the assignment when approved
- A minimum 2-week notice is required to avoid a back-out penalty
- Travelers must be flexible with scheduling and floating requirements
Orientation
- Unit/department-specific orientation: 2–3 days
- Clinicians must be in-state during the week of orientation, even if initial modules are completed remotely
- All required orientation and onboarding activities must be completed as instructed
Hiring Process

- No Unit Manager interview/involvement
