Job Overview

Join a behavioral health inpatient team providing direct and collaborative nursing care to patients experiencing psychiatric and co-occurring substance-use needs.

This role is suited for an experienced psychiatric RN who is comfortable working in a dynamic inpatient behavioral health environment, supporting patients across adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations while maintaining a safe, therapeutic milieu.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect nursing care to patients and families/legal guardians.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients.
• Participate actively as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
• Contribute to individualized treatment plans, including appropriate goals and interventions.
• Assess patient needs and apply the nursing process using a trauma-informed, recovery-focused approach.
• Develop therapeutic relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
• Use sound clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills in complex behavioral health situations.
• Support crisis management and de-escalation interventions.
• Delegate appropriately and contribute to team coordination.
• Document patient care accurately in the electronic medical record.
• Remain calm, organized, flexible, and professional during stressful situations.
• Float to similar or lower-acuity units when operationally needed.
• Perform charge responsibilities when assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Active Massachusetts RN license at the time of submission.
• Three years of adult, adolescent, and geriatric inpatient psychiatric experience required.
• CPR certification required.
• Inpatient psychiatric and/or substance-use experience.
• Ability to work evening shifts, every other weekend, and every other holiday.
• Willingness to float and take charge.

Preferred Experience & Skills

• BSN preferred.
• Restraint-reduction, de-escalation, and crisis-intervention experience preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of behavioral health and substance-abuse treatment modalities.
• Experience applying trauma-informed recovery principles.
• Strong communication, time-management, delegation, coaching, and team-building skills.
• Sufficient computer and typing skills for clinical documentation.
• Ability to manage stressful situations calmly and professionally.

• Guaranteed hours: 40 hours/week
