• Licensure Mandate: Active, unencumbered New York State (NYS) RN License held in hand at submission.
• Mandatory Certifications Required:
  • Active AHA BLS
  • Active AHA ACLS
  • Active NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) Certification
• Rhythm Interpretation Mandate: Verified proficiency to read and interpret basic cardiac rhythm strips prior to arrival/first day.
• Experience Baseline: Minimum 3+ years of dedicated MedSurg / Telemetry / Stroke RN clinical experience in an acute care hospital setting.
• Care Delivery Model: Ability to work effectively within both primary nursing and team nursing models.

Job Summary & Clinical Scope

A facility in Elmira, NY is seeking a high-acuity MedSurg / Telemetry / Stroke Registered Nurse (RN MedSurg/Tele) for a 13-week day-shift contract on unit 3B Tele MedSurg (6020). Working in a fast-paced, 34-bed dedicated stroke and cardiac telemetry environment, the RN will manage acute stroke, complex medical-surgical, and intermediate telemetry patients adhering strictly to stroke core measures and evidence-based protocols.

• Neurological Assessment & Stroke Care: Execute frequent, rigorous neurological evaluations including serial NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) assessments; maintain full compliance with stroke core measures (dysphagia screenings, stroke education, and specialized care plans).
• Cardiac Telemetry & Rhythm Monitoring: Continuously monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry rhythms in real time, rapidly identifying dysrhythmias and initiating clinical interventions per ACLS protocols.
• Medication Safety & Administration: Utilize Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) for accurate drug delivery, including high-alert cardiovascular medications and IV infusions.
• Flow & Interdisciplinary Coordination: Manage admissions, rapid discharges, and transfers in a high-turnover unit while coordinating daily with stroke neurologists, physical/occupational therapists, case managers, and primary care teams.
• Patient Safety Quality Measures: Maintain active vigilance over fall prevention protocols, skin breakdown prevention, and hospital-acquired infection avoidance.
