Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Medical/Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) for a long-term contract assignment in Akron, Ohio. This opportunity is on a 28-bed Medical/Surgical unit specializing in respiratory care, including patients requiring tracheostomy and chronic ventilator management.

The ideal candidate will be a confident and adaptable Med/Surg RN who is comfortable caring for medically complex respiratory patients in a fast-paced environment.

Unit & Patient Population

• 28-bed Medical/Surgical unit
• Specialty focus: Respiratory care
• Care for patients with:
  • Tracheostomies
  • Chronic ventilator needs
  • Complex medical conditions
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: approximately 1:5–6
• Floating to other units is required
• Candidates with LTACH experience are strongly encouraged to apply

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to Medical/Surgical patients.
• Care for patients with tracheostomies and chronic ventilators.
• Monitor respiratory status and recognize changes in patient condition.
• Perform blood draws and other required clinical procedures.
• Start, maintain, and troubleshoot IV access.
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately.
• Monitor patients for complications and promptly communicate changes to the healthcare team.
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare professionals.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Float to other units as required and within scope of practice.

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible to practice in Ohio.
• Minimum 2+ years of recent Medical/Surgical nursing experience.
• Strong experience caring for tracheostomy and chronic ventilator patients.
• At least 2 years of recent blood-draw/phlebotomy experience.
• BLS certification – Required
• Recent Epic experience within the last 12 months must be clearly listed on the resume.
• Recent phlebotomy experience within the last 12 months must be clearly listed on the resume.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness and ability to float as required.
• Nursing degree from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited program.

Assignment Requirements

• Interview is required.
• Candidate's interview availability (dates/times) must be provided with submission.
• RTO must be disclosed at the time of submission.
• Maximum 7 days of RTO permitted.
• No RTO will be accepted during the first two weeks of the assignment.
• Block scheduling requests will not be accepted.
• Candidate must be available to work every other weekend.
• Solid black scrubs are required.

Compliance Requirements

Selected candidates will be required to complete applicable license verification, credentialing, competency assessments, background screening, health screening, drug screening, and immunization requirements prior to assignment start.
 

Ideal Candidate

A strong Med/Surg RN with 2+ years of recent experience, particularly in respiratory-focused care, tracheostomy management, chronic ventilator patients, and phlebotomy. LTACH experience is highly desirable.
