Operating Room RN

Setting: Acute-care hospital
Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts, generally 6:30 AM–5:00 PM
Call: Required
OR Suites: Six
Case Volume: More than 400 procedures monthly
EMR: Epic
Scrubs: Provided
License Required at Submission: Yes

Required Qualifications

• Current BLS
• Strong OR circulating experience
• Must independently handle:
  • Total joint procedures
  • Robotic surgery
  • General laparoscopic procedures
  • Urology
  • Hand and foot procedures
  • Breast surgery, including reconstruction
• Experience with adult and pediatric surgical patients

Surgical Cases

The OR primarily handles outpatient procedures across:

• Orthopedics, total joints and sports medicine
• General surgery
• OB/GYN
• Robotic surgery
• Plastic surgery
• ENT
• Urology
• Hand surgery
• Podiatry
• Breast surgery and reconstruction

Call Requirements

• Approximately 6–7 weeknight call shifts per month
• Approximately 2–3 call weekends during a 13-week assignment
• Holiday call based on departmental needs
• Willingness to take short-notice call is strongly valued

Scheduling and Floating

• OR supervisor creates the schedule
• Block or self-scheduling is not guaranteed
• Must be flexible with shift changes based on surgical volume
• Floating is limited to areas within the OR

Orientation

• One to three days of department-specific orientation
• Open-book pass/fail exam on Friday of orientation
• A minimum score of 90% is required
• Candidates who do not pass may have their assignment terminated

Submission Requirements

• Candidate must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
• Driver’s license required at submission for radius verification
• Candidate cannot currently work full-time, part-time or PRN at a CommonSpirit, CHI or Dignity Health facility
• Maximum of seven RTO days per 13-week contract
• All RTO must be disclosed before submission; additional requests will not be approved
• Artificial nails are prohibited in patient-care departments
