NICU RN

Overview

• Role: NICU RN
• Location: Peoria, Illinois
• Contract length: 15 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour days

Required Qualifications

• Active IL license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS (AHA)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• Must provide the last four digits of SSN, middle initial, and requested time off for submission
• Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Preferred Experience

• Level 3/4 ICU experience
• Micro preemie care

Unit Details

• Level 3 NICU
• 60 total private rooms, with capability to expand to 65 patients
• 40 designated NICU rooms and 20 intermediate rooms
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: NICU 1:1-3; NIC 1:3-4
• Common patient population includes 22 weeks and up, abdominal defects, pre-cardiac repair, PPHN, CDH, and other genetic defects

Clinical Responsibilities and Workflow

• RNs titrate drips per orders
• Common drips include Fentanyl, Morphine, and Precedex
• All patients are monitored, but the unit does not do Tele
• RT equipment on the unit includes conventional vents, oscillator ventilator, JET ventilator, CPAP, Nasal IMV, Heated High Flow, and Tracheostomy

Staffing and Support

• Charge RN in NICU and NIC; charge nurse takes patient assignments only if staffing gaps
• Free transport RN available 24/7
• House supervisor available 24/7
• PCTs are used
• Neonatologist in house 24/7, with 2-3 APNs 24/7 and resident/fellow coverage

Scheduling and Coverage

• Self-scheduling is allowed
• Block scheduling is allowed
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend for dayshift
• Holiday coverage as needed
• No current call requirement

Floating

• Travelers are first to float
• May float to PICU, PIC, Peds, Nursery, sitter, BHM, and adult world

Orientation

• 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation, including 1 day in NIC and 1 day in NICU

Dress Code

• No specific scrub color requirement
• No fake nails, nail polish, or jewelry/watches
