MedSurg - Level 8 - 23 RN

Overview

• Location: Weirton, West Virginia
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Unit has 48 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-7 on days, 1:6-8 on nights

Required Qualifications

• RN license
• BLS certification
• 1 year of experience
• Must be able to provide a copy of an unexpired driver’s license at submission
• Licensing hits must be disclosed at time of submission

Preferred

• First-time travelers accepted

Schedule

• Shift: Days, 12 hours
• Every other weekend required
• May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
• No self-scheduling or block scheduling

Float Scope

• May float to other MS, MS-Tele, or IMC units for lower-acuity patients
• Floating and shift-pull rotation may apply

Unit Details

• Common patient types include pneumonia, UTI, AMS, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and falls/weakness
• Charge nurse is present on day shift and takes an assignment; at night, if only one charge nurse is scheduled, they do not take an assignment
• Patient care tech duties include vitals, BGM, EKGs, applying heart monitors, bathing, feeding, toileting, turning, and positioning
• Respiratory therapy manages breathing treatments, inhalers, ABGs, and respiratory equipment such as BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow oxygen
• Nurses are not expected to read or interpret telemetry strips
• Scrub color: navy blue
• Orientation: 1 day with educator/computer system and 1 day with a preceptor
