Description

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) – Oncology Practice Nurse to provide care in an outpatient oncology clinic. This is a practice nurse/ambulatory oncology role and is NOT an infusion position.

The RN will care for adult and geriatric oncology patients before, during, and after treatment, as well as patients attending follow-up, pre-operative, and post-operative visits. Responsibilities include telephone triage, in-basket management, patient education, symptom management, and assisting providers during clinic visits.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to adult and geriatric oncology patients in an outpatient clinic.
  • Perform telephone triage and assess patient symptoms and concerns.
  • Manage and respond to in-basket messages.
  • Assist physicians and advanced practice providers during clinic visits.
  • Support new and return patient appointments.
  • Care for patients with medical and surgical oncology diagnoses, including neuro-oncology.
  • Provide patient and family education and emotional support.
  • Assess and manage common oncology-related symptoms and treatment side effects.
  • Recognize and communicate abnormal laboratory values and changes in patient condition.
  • Provide IV therapy as needed, including hydration, and manage implanted ports/central lines within scope.
  • Follow appropriate infection-control and oncology safety practices.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Float between specialties as needed within scope of practice.

Requirements

  • Active RN license; pending license accepted but must be active before start.
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience.
  • Oncology experience required.
  • Ambulatory/outpatient clinic experience required.
  • Telephone triage experience required.
  • Practice Nurse experience preferred.
  • ONS/ONCC certification required.
  • BLS required.
  • Travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers not accepted.
  • Strong communication, assessment, and patient education skills.
  • Epic experience preferred/used at the facility.
