Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Medical/Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) for a long-term contract opportunity on a specialized 28-bed Med/Surg unit.

This unit provides care to a diverse patient population with a strong focus on respiratory conditions, tracheostomy care, and chronic ventilator patients. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and have strong clinical experience caring for complex respiratory patients.
 

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult Medical/Surgical patients.
• Care for patients with tracheostomies and chronic ventilator needs.
• Monitor respiratory status and recognize changes in patient condition.
• Perform assessments, medication administration, treatments, and clinical documentation.
• Manage patients with complex medical and respiratory conditions.
• Perform phlebotomy/blood draws as required.
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation.
• Follow infection-control, patient-safety, and facility protocols.
• Float to other units as required and within scope of practice.
• Work effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing patient acuity.

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum 2 years of recent Medical/Surgical RN experience.
• Strong recent experience caring for tracheostomy and chronic ventilator patients.
• Experience with respiratory patients and complex medical conditions.
• Minimum 2 years of recent phlebotomy/blood-drawing experience.
• BLS certification required.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program through ACEN or CCNE.
• Epic experience within the last 12 months must be clearly listed on the resume.
• Ability and willingness to float within scope of practice.
• Strong clinical assessment, communication, and documentation skills.

Unit Details

• 28-bed Medical/Surgical unit
• Specialized focus on respiratory ailments and care
• Patient population includes:
  • Tracheostomy patients
  • Chronic ventilator patients
  • Complex Medical/Surgical patients
  • Respiratory conditions
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratios range from approximately 1:5–6
• LTACH experience is highly relevant for this position.
• Fast-paced clinical environment requiring strong time-management and prioritization skills.

Assignment Requirements

• Interview required.
• Candidates must provide available interview dates/times at the time of submission.
• RTO must be submitted with the initial application.
• Maximum 7 days of RTO accepted.
• No RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment.
• Block scheduling is not permitted.
• Must be available to work every other weekend.
• Solid black scrubs are required.
• Floating is required.

Selected candidates may be required to complete facility-specific:

• Nursing competency assessments
• Medical/Surgical and specialty exams
• EKG/Telemetry assessment
• Pharmacology assessment
• License verification
• Education verification
• Drug screening and background checks
• Health screening and immunization requirements
• Facility onboarding and compliance documentation
