Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurses (RNs) for a 12-week contract opportunity in a specialized Labor & Delivery and Perinatal unit.

The department includes a 17-bed Labor & Delivery unit with birthing tubs along with 10 perinatal beds. Contract nurses will float between Labor & Delivery and Perinatal based on patient volume and clinical needs.

The ideal candidate will have strong L&D experience and be comfortable providing care to both mothers and newborns, including neonatal assessments, medications, and IV antibiotics.
 

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients throughout labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period.
• Monitor maternal and fetal status using Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM).
• Assist with labor management, deliveries, and obstetric emergencies.
• Provide care to patients in the Perinatal unit as assigned.
• Perform neonatal assessments and sepsis workups.
• Administer neonatal IV antibiotics and medications as required.
• Monitor patients for changes in condition and respond appropriately to clinical needs.
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately.
• Start and maintain IV access and perform blood draws as required.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation using Epic.
• Collaborate with physicians, midwives, neonatal teams, and other healthcare professionals.
• Provide education and support to patients and families.
• Float between L&D and Perinatal based on staffing and patient acuity.

Unit Details

Labor & Delivery

• 17-bed L&D unit
• Birthing tubs available
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1–2
• High-acuity obstetric care

Perinatal

• 10 perinatal beds
• Average nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3
• Ratios may increase to 1:4 depending on patient acuity

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience.
• Strong experience with maternal and fetal monitoring.
• Experience with neonatal care, including neonatal workups and medication administration.
• Recent Epic experience within the last 12 months.
• Recent phlebotomy experience within the last 12 months.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program through ACEN or CCNE.
• Ability and willingness to float between L&D and Perinatal.
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, and emergency-response skills.

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS
• NRP
• PALS
• STABLE
• EFM competency/certification

All required certifications must be current and verifiable.

Assignment Requirements

• Interview required.
• Candidates must provide available interview dates and times at submission.
• RTO must be submitted with the initial application.
• Maximum 4 days of RTO permitted.
• No RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment.
• Block scheduling requests are not accepted.
• Floating between L&D and Perinatal is required.
• 36 hours per week.
• Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced Labor & Delivery environment.

Credentialing & Compliance

Selected candidates may be required to complete facility-specific:

• Nursing competency and skills assessments
• EFM assessment
• Pharmacology and specialty assessments
• License and certification verification
• Education verification
• Drug screening and background checks
• Health screening and immunization requirements
• Facility onboarding and compliance documentation
