Registered Nurse – CVICU

Shift: Night 3x12-Hour (19:00–07:30)
Schedule: 36 hours/week; every 3rd weekend; holidays as scheduled
Patient Ratio: 1:2
Charting System: Epic
Float Required: Yes – MSICU as needed
Call Requirement: Yes – 24–36 hours per rotating 6-week schedule
Note: Immediate post-op open-heart/CVICU experience required; 2 years of experience required.

Position Overview:
Provide critical care nursing for complex cardiovascular and postoperative cardiac patients, including immediate post-open-heart patients requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical circulatory support, vasoactive infusions, and intensive postoperative management.

Job duties:

• Provide direct ICU care for postoperative cardiac surgery patients, including CABG, MVR, and AVR cases.
• Monitor and manage hemodynamics using CVP, pulmonary artery/Swan-Ganz, arterial lines, and cardiac output parameters.
• Manage advanced cardiovascular support including ECMO, Impella, IABP, CRRT, and epicardial pacing wires.
• Titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips while managing patients with cardiogenic shock and hemodynamic instability.
• Provide ventilatory and respiratory management including ventilator care, ABG interpretation, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, and airway suctioning.

Requirements:
License: Active MD RN or Compact RN License
Experience: 2 years RN experience with CVICU experience and direct immediate post-op open-heart experience
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, CPI, NIHSS; OCN and PALS preferred; AHA required for BLS/ACLS/PALS
Other requirement: Must be comfortable floating to MSICU; immediate post-op open-heart experience is a hard-stop requirement.

Patient Ratios: 1:2
Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics; postoperative and critically ill cardiovascular patients
Patient Diagnoses: Post-op cardiac surgery (CABG/MVR/AVR), cardiac surgery readmissions/ICU bounce-backs, TAVR, mitral clip, STEMI/NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, preoperative cardiac patients, and Inari procedures.
