Cath Lab RN / Cath Lab Tech – Interventional Cardiology

Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Cath Lab Registered Nurses and Cath Lab Technologists to support a high-acuity cardiovascular procedural environment. The department performs a broad range of cardiac, vascular, and electrophysiology procedures and requires clinicians who are comfortable working in a busy procedural setting.

Level I Trauma experience is required. Candidates with busy Level II Trauma experience may also be considered.

Cath Lab Department Details

• Department: Cath Lab
• Procedure Rooms: 3 main rooms
  • 1 Electrophysiology (EP) room
  • 1 Hybrid room supporting both vascular and cardiac procedures
• Daily Volume: Approximately 10–25 cases per day
• EMR: Cerner and Xper
• Monitoring: Philips
• Equipment: Philips and Siemens
• Charge Nurse: Yes
• RT Coverage: 24/7
• Pharmacy: 24/7
• IV Team: No
• Ventilator Management: Not applicable

Procedures & Patient Population

The Cath Lab manages a variety of interventional cardiac, vascular, and electrophysiology cases, including:

• Interventional cardiology
• Electrophysiology (EP) procedures
• Peripheral vascular procedures
• EP cardiology and vascular cases
• MitraClip
• TAVR
• IABP
• EMTALA-related procedures/placements

RN Requirements

• Current Arizona RN License
• BLS – Required
• ACLS – Required
• Strong Cath Lab/interventional experience
• Circulating experience required
• Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity procedural environment

RN Role: RNs are responsible for circulating; scrub responsibilities are not required for RNs.

Cath Lab Tech Requirements

• Current Arizona ARRT certification
• MRTBE certification
• BLS – Required
• ACLS – Required
• Must have Cath Lab experience
• Must be competent in scrubbing
• RCIS candidates will not be considered

Techs are expected to have strong scrub and procedural skills and support cardiac and vascular cases.

Additional Technical Coverage

Radiology Technologists support:

• Circulating
• Scrubbing
• Endoscopy coverage
• CVOR coverage

Schedule

• Shift: 12-hour shifts
• Regular Hours: 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM
• Schedule: Monday–Friday
• Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• Holiday Requirement: Holidays are worked as part of the rotation

Call Requirement

Call is required.

• Approximately 6–10 call shifts per schedule
• 30-minute response time required
• Candidates must be able to report to the facility within the required response time when called in

Orientation

• Department-specific orientation: Approximately 2 days on the job
• Candidates should be prepared to work independently following orientation.

Pre-Assignment Assessments

Dysrhythmia Examination

Travelers are required to successfully complete a dysrhythmia examination:

• Maximum of 2 attempts
• Passing score: 80%
• Failure after two attempts results in DNU status with CommonSpirit Arizona and Sacramento Region for 6 months

Day 1 Simulation Lab

A Pass/Fail Simulation Lab is required on Day 1.

Study guides and instructional videos are provided to help travelers prepare.

For travelers assigned to St. Joseph Main and/or St. Joseph Westgate campuses, required SIM skills include:

• Foley catheter insertion
• Central line dressing changes

Important: Maintaining a sterile field is a critical component of the SIM assessment. Breaking sterile technique may result in failure and termination.

Additional Education

Travelers will also receive education related to:

• Patient lifts
• Restraints
• Wound care

These components are educational and are intended to familiarize travelers with facility-specific equipment and policies.

Trauma & Clinical Experience

• Level I Trauma experience required
• Candidates with strong experience in a busy Level II Trauma Center may be screened
• Candidates should demonstrate strong procedural, cardiovascular, and critical-care competencies

Radius & Local Candidate Policy

• 50-mile radius rule applies
• No local rates
• Driver's license is the source of truth for determining the candidate's distance
• Driver's license must be provided before the contract can be issued

Floating & Department Expectations

This is a specialized Cath Lab position. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced procedural environment and managing a high daily case volume.

• Scrubs provided by the facility

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced Cath Lab professional with strong interventional cardiovascular knowledge, excellent procedural skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment. Candidates must be comfortable with the required call schedule, 30-minute response time, and facility-specific competency assessments.
