Position Overview

OSF is seeking an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join the MedTele 4East team. This unit provides care for adult medical and telemetry patients with a variety of complex medical conditions, including CHF, heart failure, diabetes, end-of-life care, and other general medical diagnoses.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable working in a fast-paced medical-telemetry environment, monitoring cardiac rhythms, managing a diverse patient population, and collaborating effectively with physicians and multidisciplinary care teams.

Unit & Patient Care

• 28 single-occupancy rooms, with the potential to expand to 36 beds.
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratios:
  • Days: 1:4–5
  • Nights: 1:5
• Common patient populations include:
  • Congestive heart failure (CHF)
  • Heart failure
  • Diabetes
  • General medical conditions
  • Telemetry patients
  • End-of-life / comfort-focused care
• No titratable IV drips are managed on the unit.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to medical-telemetry patients.
• Perform ongoing cardiac and clinical assessments.
• Monitor telemetry and recognize changes in cardiac rhythm.
• Coordinate patient care with physicians, respiratory therapy, nursing support staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Provide compassionate care to patients requiring end-of-life support.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and follow OSF standards for patient safety and quality of care.

Telemetry & Respiratory Support

• 24/7 Telemetry Monitoring is available.
• Nurses are responsible for monitoring and observing telemetry.
• SpaceLab is the telemetry monitoring system.
• No mechanical ventilators on the unit.
• CPAP and BiPAP are available; Respiratory Therapy monitors these devices.
• RNs are not required to independently manage respiratory equipment beyond appropriate clinical monitoring/troubleshooting.

Staffing & Support

• A Charge Nurse is available 24/7.
• Charge Nurses may take a patient assignment depending on staffing levels and census.
• Nurse Aides/PCTs are available based on staffing and census.
• The goal is approximately 1 PCT to 10 patients when staffing permits.

Schedule

• Day Shift: 7:00 AM–7:30 PM
• Night Shift: 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend

Weekend Rotation

Day Shift:

• Saturday/Sunday

Night Shift:

• Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday

Holiday Requirement

Travel RNs are required to work every other holiday.

Floating Requirements

Travelers may float based on staffing and operational needs to:

• 4West – Med-Surg
• Occasionally ICU for general overflow patients

Orientation

• Standard unit-specific orientation: 2 shifts
• The unit may consider extending orientation to 3 shifts based on the nurse's experience and needs.

Dress Code

• Navy blue scrubs

OSF Traveler Requirements & Important Information

Local Rate Policy

• Clinicians whose permanent address is within 50 miles of the facility are considered local.
• Local rates are reduced by $25 from the regular and OT bill rates.

Call-Off Policy

• OSF permits the equivalent of 12 hours of call-off per 13-week assignment without penalty or requiring payment for the missed shift.

Orientation

• 12 hours of orientation are non-billable.
• Guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation.

Submission Requirements

The following information is required at the time of submission:

• Last four digits of the clinician's SSN
• Clinician's middle initial
• All requested time off (RTO)
• Active Illinois RN license, or confirmation that the license application process has been initiated
