Position Overview

Mercy Hospital St. Louis is seeking experienced Registered Nurses for its Medical Surgical Orthopedic Unit. The RN will provide direct patient care to patients of all age groups, with a primary focus on post-surgical and orthopedic patients.

The RN will be responsible for patient assessment, care planning, implementation, evaluation, monitoring, and coordination of care with ancillary departments to promote safe, effective, and comfortable patient outcomes.

• EPIC experience: Highly preferred

Required Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Must be licensed in Missouri or meet eligibility criteria for Missouri licensure
• BLS required
• Minimum 1+ year of inpatient hospital experience
• Must have Med Surg experience
• Must be comfortable caring for orthopedic/post-surgical patients
• Must be able to float throughout the Med Surg units as needed

Required Skills

Candidates must be able to:

• Manage all cardiac drips
• Operate an EKG machine
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments
• Develop and implement nursing care plans
• Monitor patient conditions and recognize changes
• Provide direct bedside patient care
• Coordinate care with physicians and ancillary departments
• Care for post-operative and orthopedic patients
• Work effectively in a Med Surg environment
• Float throughout Med Surg as required

Preferred Experience

• EPIC experience
• Previous orthopedic nursing experience
• Strong inpatient hospital background
• Experience caring for post-surgical patients

Schedule & Weekend Requirements

• Shift: Night shift
• Hours: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Guaranteed: 48 hours/week
• Weekend: Every other full weekend
• Saturday and Sunday are required on scheduled weekends unless approved in advance
• Call: None
• Block scheduling requests may be accommodated based on unit needs but are not guaranteed
• Block requests must be specified on the submission cover sheet
• Up to 5 days of requested time off per 13-week assignment can be automatically approved
• Additional time off requires leadership approval and may need to be made up at the end of the assignment

Orientation

• Night-shift travelers will orient on day shift
• Traveler must be available for the entire orientation week
• Orientation availability is required before starting the regular night schedule

Holiday Requirement

Travelers should expect to work at least one major winter holiday, which may include:

• Thanksgiving
• Christmas
• New Year's Day

Flu Vaccination

• Flu vaccination is required for all travelers from November 1 through April 1
• Any exemption must be approved by the client/facility

Local Candidate Policy

Important: The bill rate for local candidates will be $10 below the posted travel rate.
