Travel RN – ICU | Job Details


Specialty: ICU RN
Care Setting: Acute Care
Guaranteed Hours:  13 /week
Shift: 12-hour Nights
Weekend: Every other weekend (EOW)
Start Dates: 11/10 or 11/17 only

Unit Details

  • 12-bed Medical/Surgical ICU
  • Patient ratio: 1:1–2
  • EMR: Cerner
  • Scrubs: Navy
    • Undershirts: navy, white, or black
    • Scrub jacket optional; must be navy
  • Telemetry: Required — must read and interpret EKG strips
  • Ventilators: Yes
  • Hospitalist/Intensivist: In-house
  • RT: 24/7
  • Pharmacy:  24/7

Required Certifications

  • BLS – AHA
  • ACLS – AHA
  • NIHSS

Experience / Clinical Requirements

Experience with Medical/Surgical ICU patients, including:

  • NSTEMI
  • CVA
  • Multi-organ failure
  • Sepsis
  • Respiratory failure
  • Post-operative complications
  • Ventilated patients
  • TEE and bronchoscopy bedside procedures
  • Comfort-care patients

Scheduling

  • 12-hour nights
  • EOW
  • Minimum 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period
  • Self-scheduling, subject to manager approval/balancing
  • Schedule released approximately 4 weeks at a time
  • Block scheduling generally not available
  • OT and extra shifts available
  • Mid-shift floating is rare but possible
  • May float to other Sacramento facilities
  • First-to-float requirement

Orientation

  • 1–2 days of unit-specific orientation with a preceptor

Submission Requirements 🚨

  • Active RN license required at submission
  • 2 supervisor references required at submission
    • 1 reference within the past 12 months
    • 1 reference within the past 3 years
    • Charge RN references are accepted
  • Driver's license required at submission to validate legal name
  • Pulse profile must exactly match the government-issued ID name
  • No middle initial or middle name on Pulse

Dysrhythmia Exam – Important

Before acceptance, the UNA Basic Dysrhythmia (DYS) Exam is required.

  • Must be completed within 24–48 hours
  • Pass/fail
  • 2 attempts allowed
  • Test A first; Test B for the retake
  • Screenshot showing number of attempts required
  • A Relias Basic Dysrhythmia exam completed within the last 12 months may be accepted
  • Failure of the second attempt results in DNU for CommonSpirit AZ and Sacramento facilities

Holidays

Travelers are expected to work 2 of the 3 major holidays:

  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas
