Cardiac Cath Lab Technologist
Department: Cardiac Cath Lab
Shift: 8-hour shifts | 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
Call Requirement: 2–3 weeknights per week
Weekend Call: Every 3rd weekend
Holiday Call: Approximately 2–3 holidays per year
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Cardiac Cath Lab Technologist to join the Cardiac Cath Lab team at OSF. The ideal candidate will have recent hands-on experience with cardiac heart catheterization and peripheral catheterization procedures and be comfortable working in a fast-paced procedural environment.
The department includes 2 cardiac catheterization labs, 1 hybrid room, and a 6-bed recovery area, performing approximately 5 cases per day.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist physicians and the procedural team during cardiac and peripheral catheterization procedures.
- Prepare and maintain the cath lab, equipment, and supplies for procedures.
- Provide technical support during diagnostic and interventional procedures.
- Assist with emergent cardiac cases, including STEMI and NSTEMI patients.
- Support neuro-interventional procedures for appropriate stroke patients.
- Assist with peripheral angiography and other vascular procedures.
- Support line placements, drain placements, and loop recorder procedures.
- Maintain sterile technique and follow all patient-safety and infection-control protocols.
- Monitor and operate applicable cath lab equipment.
- Document procedures and patient information accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, radiology staff, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Common Patient Diagnoses & Procedures
The department commonly treats and performs procedures involving:
- STEMI
- NSTEMI
- Chest pain
- Stroke patients requiring neuro-intervention
- Peripheral angiography
- Line placement
- Drain placement
- Loop recorder procedures
- Diagnostic and interventional heart catheterization
Required Qualifications
- Recent experience performing/supporting heart catheterization procedures.
- Recent experience with peripheral catheterization procedures.
- Current BLS certification.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity procedural environment.
- Strong understanding of cath lab procedures, equipment, and sterile technique.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with Philips equipment.
- Experience with McKesson.
- Experience working with Philips monitoring equipment and Philips procedure tables.
- Experience with Bi-Plane imaging systems is beneficial.
Department & Equipment
- Labs: 2 cardiac cath labs
- Hybrid Room: 1
- Recovery Area: 6 beds
- Average Volume: Approximately 5 cases per day
- EMR: Epic
- Lab Equipment: Philips monitoring equipment and Philips tables
- Documentation/System: McKesson
- Bi-Plane: Available in one of the cath labs
- Charge Nurse: Charge nurse may take a patient/procedural assignment as needed.
- Floating: Typically no floating required.
Schedule & Call
- Regular Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, 8-hour shifts
- Weeknight Call: 2–3 nights per week
- Weekend Call: Every 3rd weekend
- Holiday Call: Approximately 2–3 holidays per year
Dress Code
- Hospital scrubs are provided.
Orientation
- 32 hours of department-specific orientation, consisting of 4 shifts.

Candidates submitted for consideration must provide:
- Last four (4) digits of Social Security Number
- Middle initial
- Requested time off
- Active Illinois license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
- Confirmation that the candidate understands OSF's Drug-Free Campus policy and is willing to complete the required negative drug screen for all panels
OSF Important Notes
Local Rate: Applies to clinicians whose permanent address is within 50 miles. A $25 reduction applies to regular and overtime bill rates.
Call-Off Policy: Equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks may be called off without penalty or the requirement to pay for the shift.
Orientation: 12 hours are non-billable, and guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation.
