Alameda John George Psychiatric Pavilion | San Leandro, CA
Start Date: 11/02/2026
Duration: 13 weeks
Hours: 40 hrs/week guaranteed
Patient Ratio: 1:6
Charting: Epic
Call: None
Weekend: Every other weekend – 6 weekend shifts/contract
Float: Yes, to other psych/PES/inpatient units as needed
Local Candidates: Accepted
Requirements
- Active California RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience
- Acute Behavioral Health/Psychiatric experience required
- Travel experience required
- BLS required
- CPI preferred; can be completed onsite
- Experience with complex psychiatric disorders and treatments
- Previous charge experience preferred
Unit Details
- Adult acute inpatient psychiatric/forensic behavioral health
- Approximately 23 beds
- 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Fast-paced environment
- Common diagnoses include schizophrenia, psychosis, bipolar disorder, depression, mood disorders, substance use, suicidal behavior, and anxiety disorders
- Support from psychiatrists, social workers, OT, mental health specialists, security, pharmacy, and other interdisciplinary teams
Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult psychiatric patients, including assessment, medication administration, behavioral monitoring, safety interventions, patient education, therapeutic approaches, and documentation. Nurses may care for patients requiring seclusion or physical-hold protocols according to facility policy.
Additional Requirements
- Every-other-weekend coverage required
- No on-call
- RTO requires facility approval
- CA RN license and required credentials must be in hand at submission
- COVID-19 vaccination required per facility policy; medical exemptions may apply
- Facility may require floating based on patient care needs
