RN PCU- Rapid Response

Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Shift: 07:00–19:00 (12-hour days)
Start date: November 30
Contract: 13 weeks
Guaranteed hours: 48 hours/week
 

Unit Details

• Beds: 36
• Ratios:
  • Days: typically 1:3–1:4
  • Nights: 1:4–1:5
  • Ratios may be higher/lower depending on patient-care tech availability
• Staffing: Primarily RN-based; techs may not be available when the unit is stretched
• Unit secretary: 7 AM–7 PM
• Charting: Meditech
• Equipment: BiPAP, heated high-flow nasal cannula, Alaris IV pumps, Kangaroo feeding pumps
• Floating: Telemetry Unit

Requirements

• BLS — Required
• ACLS — Required
• Advanced assessment and critical-thinking skills
• Experience managing vasoactive drips

Typical Procedures

• Central line/PICC placement
• Chest tube placement

Hospital

• Level II Trauma Center
• Stroke Accreditation
• STEMI Accreditation
• Certified Bariatric Center

Scheduling

• 48 hours/week is an option
• Rotating holiday schedule
• Staff scheduling includes weekend rotation requirements depending on employment category
• PRN staff have specific minimum shift/weekend requirements
• Bonus shifts float first

Uniform

• Charcoal-gray scrub tops
• Charcoal-gray or black scrub bottoms
• Black or charcoal-gray jacket
• Unit-specific jackets may be available to order
