Description
Travel RN – Telemetry / MedSurg Float Pool
Location: Chandler & Mercy Gilbert, Arizona
Position: RN II – Telemetry Float Pool (MedSurg/CV/Neuro)
Shift: Nights (7 PM–7 AM)
Hours: 36 guaranteed hours per week
Shift Length: 12 hours
Experience Required: 2 years
Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Position Overview
This is a night-shift RN position in a float pool covering Telemetry, Medical-Surgical, Cardiovascular, and Neurology units. Nurses must be comfortable floating between units and caring for patients with varying acuity levels.
Must be able to interpret EKGs and titrate cardiac drips.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience.
- BLS and ACLS certifications required.
- NIHSS certification required.
- Must be able to interpret cardiac rhythms.
- Must have experience titrating cardiac drips.
- Must be willing to float between multiple units and campuses.
Shift & Schedule
- 12-hour night shifts (7 PM–7 AM).
- 36 guaranteed hours per week.
- 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule.
- Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays.
- Nurses are first to float based on staffing needs.
- Floating between campuses is required.
Floating Requirements
Nurses may float to:
- Cardiac Telemetry
- Neurology Telemetry
- Medical-Surgical
- ICU (depending on experience and skill level)
- Observation units
- Other holding areas, including the ER and Cath Lab
Campus Requirements:
- Floating between Chandler and Mercy Gilbert campuses is required.
- The campuses are approximately 9 miles apart.
- Nurses will be notified of their campus and unit 1.5 hours before their shift.
- Floating to another unit during a shift is possible.
- Floating between campuses during a single shift is rare but may occur.
Unit Details
Cardiac Telemetry
- 32 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3–4
- Patient population includes post-cath, post-vascular procedures, CABG, and general telemetry patients.
- Cardiac drips include Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, and Dobutamine (titration down only).
- Centralized telemetry monitoring.
- Navy scrubs required.
Neurology Telemetry
- 28 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3–4
- Patient population includes post-neurosurgical, craniotomy, spine surgery, and post-tPA stroke patients.
- No ICP monitoring.
- Centralized telemetry monitoring.
- Navy scrubs required.
Medical-Surgical C5
- 32 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
- Patient population includes orthopedic, surgical, and oncology patients.
- Common cases include knee and hip replacements, urological, abdominal, and Whipple procedures.
- Approximately 80% surgical and 20% oncology patients.
- Floats to MedSurg Tele B2C and B2D.
Medical-Surgical B2C
- 29 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
- General medical-surgical patients requiring telemetry.
- May include Amiodarone and Cardizem drips (titration down only).
- Floats to MedSurg Tele C5 and B2D.
Orientation
- Two days of unit-specific orientation for Telemetry and Neurology.
- Two shifts of unit-specific orientation for Medical-Surgical.
- Sim Lab assessment on the first day of orientation.
Important Hiring Requirements
- Auto-offer: Based on prescreen review.
- Dysrhythmia exam: Must be passed within 48 hours of receiving an offer and before signing the contract.
- Exam attempts: Maximum of 2 attempts.
- Sim Lab: Must pass the assessment on the first day of orientation.
- Failure policy: Failure of either the dysrhythmia exam or Sim Lab results in the traveler being sent home and placed on the facility's Do Not Use (DNU) list for 6 months for the CSH Arizona and Sacramento regions.
