Job Description


We are seeking an experienced Cardiac Specialty Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Operating Room team at Nicklaus Children's Hospital in Miami, Florida. This is a specialized CVOR/Cardiac OR opportunity caring for pediatric and adult congenital cardiac patients undergoing complex cardiac procedures.


The ideal candidate will have strong perioperative nursing experience and be comfortable working in a high-acuity cardiac surgical environment alongside cardiac surgeons, anesthesia, perfusion, surgical technologists, and the multidisciplinary OR team.


This is an immediate-fill need supporting scheduled cardiac surgeries.

Clinical Environment


The Cardiac Specialty RN provides perioperative nursing care for pediatric and adult congenital cardiac patients undergoing complex cardiac procedures.

The RN will work closely with:

  • Cardiac Surgeons
  • Anesthesia
  • Perfusion
  • Surgical Technologists
  • Perioperative Nursing
  • Multidisciplinary Cardiac Surgical Teams

Responsibilities

  • Perform scrub and/or circulating duties for complex cardiac procedures
  • Prepare the operating room for cardiac surgical cases
  • Ensure instruments, equipment, implants, and supplies are available
  • Support procedures involving cardiopulmonary bypass
  • Coordinate closely with the perfusion team
  • Maintain strict sterile technique
  • Perform surgical counts and time-outs
  • Complete accurate perioperative documentation
  • Anticipate intraoperative needs during complex cardiac procedures
  • Respond appropriately during emergent cases
  • Maintain patient safety and infection-prevention standards
  • Participate in quality-improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Perioperative / Operating Room nursing experience required
  • Cardiac surgery experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with complex cardiac procedures preferred
  • Cardiopulmonary bypass experience preferred
  • Pediatric, congenital, or adult congenital cardiac experience preferred
  • Active Florida RN license or multistate eNLC license in good standing
  • AHA BLS required
  • AHA PALS required
  • Must be willing to participate in the alternating 1st-call and 2nd-call rotation
  • Must be available for the full 13-week assignment

Preferred Certifications

  • CNOR
  • CPN
  • Equivalent perioperative/cardiac nursing certification

Call Requirement


This position requires participation in an alternating 1st-call and 2nd-call rotation.

Candidates must be comfortable with the facility's cardiac OR call requirements before submission.
