Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients on a 22-bed Telemetry unit.
• Maintain an approximate 1:3–4 nurse-to-patient ratio.
• Perform comprehensive assessments and ongoing reassessments of acute and telemetry patients.
• Care for patients with stroke, TIA, seizure, TBI, and mixed medical/telemetry diagnoses.
• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms using GE Apex telemetry.
• Independently interpret telemetry strips and recognize dysrhythmias and clinically significant rhythm changes.
• Administer and monitor patients receiving Heparin, Amiodarone, and Cardizem infusions according to orders and facility protocols.
• Manage patients receiving DKA treatment according to established protocols.
• Monitor patients receiving BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC).
• Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly escalate care when indicated.
• Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments safely and accurately.
• Maintain thorough and timely documentation in the Cerner EMR.
• Perform medication reconciliation and maintain accurate patient records.
• Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, and discharge planning.
• Participate in bedside shift reporting and promote a positive patient experience.
• Support hospital HCAHPS, core measures, and stroke-quality measures.
• Collaborate with physicians, charge nurses, monitor technicians, nursing assistants, respiratory therapists, and other interdisciplinary team members.
• Delegate appropriate tasks to unit aides while maintaining accountability for patient care.
• Prepare patients for discharge, transfer, or escalation to a higher level of care.
• Provide complete and accurate handoff communication during shift changes.
• Float to IMCU (2West) or Medical/Surgical units when required.
• Participate in unit orientation, competency validation, and required dysrhythmia testing.
• Follow infection-control, patient-safety, medication-safety, and hospital policies.
• Work effectively in a busy, frequently full 22-bed unit while maintaining safe and organized patient care.
