Job Type: Contract
Contract Term: 8 Weeks
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM; Hours May Vary Based on Case Load
Guaranteed Hours: 40 Hours/Week
Facility: Three Rivers Hospital
EMR: CPSI/Evident
Requirements:
Active Washington State License, as applicable
Current BLS certification
Successful completion of a Surgical Technologist training program/school OR minimum of 1 year of OR scrub nursing experience, subject to OR Supervisor discretion
Minimum 2 years of experience required
Certification as a Central Supply Technician preferred
Knowledge of surgical procedures and surgeon preferences
Knowledge of medical asepsis and sterile technique
Knowledge of surgical instruments and appropriate operating room setup
Knowledge of proper handling of tissue specimens, cultures, and smears
Ability to tolerate exposure to blood and body tissue
Ability to perform detailed and repetitive tasks involving surgical instruments and supplies
Ability to work independently and effectively with surgical and hospital staff
Willingness to work different shifts, weekends, and additional hours as scheduling demands
Responsibilities:
Prepare and select appropriate surgical instrument sets and equipment based on the planned procedure
Prepare and maintain the operating room for surgical procedures
Scrub, gown, and glove self and other team members
Assist with patient draping according to approved procedures
Handle surgical instruments correctly and ensure proper functioning
Maintain sterile technique and immediately report any breaks in sterility
Perform sponge and sharp counts with the Circulating Nurse before and during surgical procedures
Anticipate surgeon needs and provide instruments and supplies efficiently
Assist with surgical procedures as first assistant when required
Retract tissue, cut sutures, sponge blood, and irrigate wounds as needed
Properly identify and preserve surgical specimens
Assist with operating room cleanup and preparation for subsequent procedures
Monitor and report servicing and maintenance needs for surgical equipment and instrumentation
Restock supplies and maintain appropriate department inventory levels
Assist with orientation, training, and education of personnel
Follow procedures for transporting and receiving preoperative patients
Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
Follow established chain-of-command and report pertinent information to the department supervisor
Sterile Processing Responsibilities:
Inspect surgical equipment for leaks, broken or loose parts, and other defects
Clean, decontaminate, and sterilize surgical instruments according to established protocols
Operate and monitor steam autoclaves, sonic washers, and other sterilization equipment
Organize and prepare surgical instrument trays Record sterilizer test results
Maintain sterile storage inventory and supply levels
Organize inventory and ensure availability of instruments and supplies for scheduled procedures
Stock and inventory crash carts
Distribute instruments to the Surgery Department and other appropriate hospital areas
Follow all sterilization, infection control, and safety protocols
Perform other duties as assigned
