Responsibilities

  • Provide high-acuity nursing care as part of a High Acuity Float Pool.
  • Float across multiple departments, including:
    • Critical Care/ICU
    • Observation
    • Medical-Surgical
    • General Surgery
    • Orthopedic Surgery
    • Short Stay Surgery
    • Thoracic Surgery
    • Neurosurgery
    • Oncology
    • Telemetry
    • Progressive Care
  • Manage critically ill medical, surgical, neurological, and cardiac patients.
  • Maintain AACN-based critical-care staffing ratios, generally 1:1–1:2, with assignments up to 1:3 depending on patient acuity and transfer status.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments and continuously monitor patients for changes in condition.
  • Safely administer and titrate vasoactive, sedative, analgesic, and other critical-care infusions, including:
    • Epinephrine
    • Norepinephrine
    • Dobutamine
    • Propofol
    • Esmolol
    • Hydromorphone
    • Midazolam
    • Cisatracurium (CIS)
  • Care for patients requiring ventilators, high-flow oxygen, BiPAP, and CPAP.
  • Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms using Philips monitoring systems and collaborate with monitor technicians.
  • Manage patients with advanced cardiac support devices when appropriately trained and recently experienced, including CRRT, Impella, ECMO, and IABP.
  • Care for patients with or without PA catheters, based on experience and competency.
  • Collaborate with physicians, charge nurses, respiratory therapists, nursing assistants, and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Respond appropriately to rapid changes in patient condition and escalate concerns promptly.
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, medications, and patient responses in EPIC.
  • Adapt quickly to different units, patient populations, workflows, and staffing assignments.
  • Participate in floating assignments throughout the hospital according to operational needs.
  • Work collaboratively with charge/resource nurses, who remain free of patient assignments.
  • Provide safe patient care while maintaining infection-control and hospital safety standards.
  • Participate in required orientation, competency validation, and unit-specific training.
Requirements Current Washington State or Compact RN license; license must be available for submission. AHA BLS certification required. AHA ACLS certification required. NIHSS certification required. Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required. High-acuity ICU experience preferred. EPIC experience is mandatory. Prior floating experience is mandatory, including experience with a float pool, floating to other facilities, and/or floating between floors/units. Strong critical-care assessment and clinical judgment skills. Demonstrated experience with titrating critical-care drips. Ventilator, high-flow, BiPAP, and CPAP experience required/preferred based on assignment. Telemetry experience with the ability to independently read cardiac rhythms. Experience with advanced devices such as CRRT, Impella, ECMO, or IABP is highly preferred for night-shift candidates, though candidates do not need experience with all devices. Recent experience with advanced cardiac devices may allow competency validation/check-off. Must be comfortable floating across multiple departments and caring for varied patient populations. Must be willing to work 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM. Must work 3 weekend shifts per schedule. Holiday availability is required. No call or standby requirement. Self-scheduling is available. Must complete General Hospital Orientation (GHO) on Monday, along with Myles Modules, Cerner validation class, and unit orientation. ICU orientation consists of 2 shifts in the ICU. Must wear Royal Blue scrubs. Must be willing to participate in a profile review and manager interview.
