Travel MedSurg/Tele RN

Contract: 13 weeks
Schedule: 12-hour Days, 7:00 AM–7:30 PM
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
Weekend: Every other weekend
Float: Travelers are first to float

Unit

• 39-bed mixed MedSurg & Tele unit
• Fast-paced with frequent admissions and discharges
• Patient ratio:
  • Tele: 1:4
  • MedSurg: 1:5
  • Mixed assignments possible, such as 3 MedSurg + 1 Tele
• Common patients: medical/surgical, bariatric, total joint, stroke, and chronic conditions
• Non-titratable drips including Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Heparin
• CPAP/BiPAP supported by RT

Requirements

• BLS – Required
• ACLS – Required
• NIHSS – Required
• Cerner experience preferred
  • Candidate must confirm whether they have Cerner experience and whether it was recent
  • Cerner training may be waived by competency testing
• Must be comfortable reading and interpreting all cardiac rhythms
• Acute-care MedSurg/Tele experience

Schedule & Floating

• 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM–7:30 PM
• Strict attendance policy; punctuality is important
• Block scheduling is not guaranteed
• Every other weekend
• Travelers are first to float
• May float to other MedSurg/Tele areas, MedSurg holds in the ER, or ICU for MedSurg patients if needed
• May potentially float between MSW and MHB

Holidays

Travelers follow the permanent staff holiday rotation:

• 1 major holiday
• 1 minor holiday

Other Details

• EMR: Cerner
• Scrubs: Navy blue, including scrub jacket
• House supervisor in-house 24/7
• Hospitalist/Intensivist available
• RT and Pharmacy available 24/7
• Omnicell medication system
• Typical unit orientation: 1–2 shifts, potentially up to 3 depending on Cerner experience
• Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment
• BSN not required
• License required at submission
