Respiratory Therapist

Overview

• 13-week contract
• Petersburg, West Virginia
• 12-hour day/night rotating shifts
• 36 hours per week

Department

• Respiratory | RT

Required Qualifications

• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• PCOT
• 2 years of experience in the specialty
• Must have ventilatory skills
• Must be able to work independently
• CRT is acceptable

Preferred Qualifications

• RRT
• Pediatric experience

Clinical Setting

• Covers inpatient, outpatient, and ED
• Mostly adult patients
• ED may include adults, pediatrics, and neonates
• L&D neonates are seen occasionally

Duties

• Vent management
• ABG draws
• CPAP/BiPAP
• High Flow Nasal Cannula
• Nebs
• MDIs
• Flutter/Airway Clearance
• Nocturnal pulse ox setup
• Blood gases

Scheduling

• Every other weekend
• Holidays as needed
• 2–3 days of department-specific orientation
• First-time travelers accepted

Float / Coverage

• One person is assigned to the ER for a lighter load that day

Additional Notes

• RTs assist with intubation, not independent intubation
• Day shift typically has 2 RTs for inpatient and 1 RT for outpatient
• Night shift typically has 1 inpatient RT
• Future cross-training may include Pulmonary/Cardiac Rehab
• Sleep Lab is a future possibility
