Registered Nurse – Emergency Department (RN Emergency Room)

Shift Matrix: Night Shift / Mid Shift | 12-Hour Shifts

  • Work Schedule: 36 guaranteed hours per week (3x12-Hour Shifts).
  • Shift Options:
    • Night Shift: 19:00 – 07:30
    • Mid Shift: 11:00 – 23:30
  • On-Call Requirement: No call required.
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 Hours Per Week

🚫 Absolute Minimum Qualifications & Departmental Hardstops:

  • Licensure Mandate: Active, unencumbered New York State RN License held in hand at submission.
  • Experience Baseline: Minimum 2+ years of recent, dedicated Emergency Department (ED) RN experience in a busy acute hospital environment.
  • Mandatory Certifications:
    • Active AHA BLS
    • Active AHA ACLS
    • Active AHA PALS
  • Volume & Ratio Preparedness: Demonstrated capability managing a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio within a high-volume, 48-treatment space Emergency Department.
  • Shift Flexibility: Candidate must be willing/open to either the 19:00 – 07:30 (Nights) or 11:00 – 23:30 (Mids) shift window.

Job Summary & Clinical Scope

A Medical Center in Elmira, NY is seeking an experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN Emergency Room) for a 13-week contract in EMERG (Department 6711). Operating within a 48-bed regional emergency care center, the RN will direct immediate triage, emergency resuscitation, acute stabilization, and emergency pharmacotherapy for adult and pediatric emergency populations.

  • Emergency Triage & Rapid Assessment: Conduct rapid visual and physical triage evaluations using ESI triage algorithms; prioritize patient care based on clinical acuity and physiological stability.
  • Resuscitation & High-Acuity Stabilization: Direct advanced cardiac, trauma, and respiratory resuscitation protocols (Code Blue, Code STEMI, Stroke Alerts, Severe Sepsis) within a 48-bed department.
  • High-Volume Bedside Care: Maintain primary care management for up to 5 acute patients simultaneously (1:5 ratio); execute IV vascular access, cardiac telemetry monitoring, continuous infusion titrations, and emergency procedural assistance.
  • Interdisciplinary Emergency Collaboration: Partner with emergency physicians, mid-level providers, trauma teams, crisis counselors, and inpatient floor units to optimize throughput and clinical outcomes.
