Job Title: Registered Nurse – Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Cath Lab Registered Nurse to join a high-acuity cardiac catheterization team at a major teaching hospital and Level IV Trauma Center.
The Cath Lab RN will provide comprehensive care throughout diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures, including patient assessment, medication administration, moderate sedation, circulating, pre- and post-procedure care, and on-call coverage.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a circulator in the cardiac catheterization lab.
- Provide pre-, intra-, and post-procedure patient care.
- Perform patient assessments and monitor patients throughout procedures.
- Administer medications and provide moderate sedation as required.
- Assist physicians during diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures.
- Support procedures including cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, valvuloplasty, stent placement, and structural heart procedures.
- Assist with pacemaker and defibrillator procedures as needed.
- Maintain accurate electronic documentation.
- Respond to emergent cardiac cases while on call.
- Collaborate with physicians, technologists, and the interdisciplinary care team.
- Float within scope if facility needs require it, although the primary assignment will remain in the Cath Lab.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience.
- At least 1 year of Cath Lab experience with demonstrated competency in:
- Diagnostic procedures
- Interventional procedures
- Structural heart procedures
- Previous travel nursing experience required.
- Previous Cath Lab experience is required; first-time Cath Lab travelers are not accepted.
- Active West Virginia RN license or Compact RN license.
- Pending WV license may be accepted for submission but must be active before the start date.
- ARRT registration required.
- Strong assessment, procedural, medication administration, and patient-monitoring skills.
Important: RCIS alone does not qualify as an RN license for this position in West Virginia.

- PALS may be required depending on unit requirements.

Schedule & Call Requirements
Regular Schedule: 4x10-hour day shifts
Shift: 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM
On-Call Requirement:
- Approximately 2–3 weekday nights of call from 7:00 PM – 6:30 AM as second call.
- Weekend call approximately once every 4–5 weeks.
- Weekend call runs from Friday at 7:00 PM through Monday at 6:30 AM.
- First- and second-call responsibilities rotate every 12 hours.
- 2-hour callback minimum.
- There are 10 Cath Lab teams, with 2 teams covering each weekend.
Patient & Department Information
- Daily caseload: approximately 8–10 cases per tech
- Patient ratio: approximately 1:8
- Orientation: 16 hours
- Charting system: Cerner
- Scrubs: Provided
- Parking: Free for travelers

Additional Requirements
- Travel experience required.
- Previous charge experience preferred.
- Cerner experience preferred.
- Community hospital, LTAC, and trauma experience preferred.
- Candidate must have a permanent address at least 100 miles from the facility.
- Candidates residing 75–100 miles away may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Two Manager and/or Charge Nurse references from the past 2 years required.
- RTO must be provided at the time of submission.
- Required certifications must be listed with the application.
- Flu vaccination required; medical exemptions may be considered.
- COVID-19 vaccination is not required.
- Required pre-start modules are non-billable and typically take 2–6 hours.
- Full compliance documentation must be completed before the start date.
Important Eligibility Notes
- First-time Cath Lab travelers are not accepted.
- Minimum 2 years RN experience is required.
- Candidates must demonstrate competency across diagnostic, interventional, and structural Cath Lab procedures.
- Current employees within the affiliated health system are not eligible for travel assignments within the system.
- Former permanent employees must wait 2 years from their last permanent employment date before returning as a traveler.
