🏥 Job Breakdown – Cath Lab / Interventional Radiology RN

Facility: G Shep – Interventional Platform
Location: Barrington, Illinois
Facility Type: Level II Trauma Center
Beds: 176
Other: Level II NICU, Magnet-designated, Primary Stroke Center
Contract: 13 weeks
Shift: 8-hour day shift / 40 hours per week

🫀 Department

This is a combined Cath Lab + Interventional Radiology (IR) department, but they have:

• Dedicated Cath Lab staff
• Dedicated IR staff
• 4 procedure rooms
• Pre/post area is staffed by a different unit

The candidate may float between Cath Lab and IR based on skill set.

👩‍⚕️ RN Requirements

Minimum experience:

• 2 years Cath Lab experience
• IR experience is preferred
• First-time travelers: case-by-case review

RN must be able to:

• Circulate procedures
• Record procedures
• Work with invasive cardiology patients
• Perform/assist with moderate sedation
• Work with Fentanyl and Versed
• Complete onsite sign-off for moderate sedation

🫀 Cath Lab Procedures

Experience with these is required:

• Invasive cardiology
• Structural heart procedures
• AAA repairs
• TAVR
• Ablations

🩻 IR Experience

IR experience is preferred.

Procedures include:

• Biopsies
• Peripheral interventions
• Other invasive and non-invasive IR procedures

👥 Procedure Room Staffing

Each procedure room generally has:

• 2 Nurses
• 1 Tech

📜 Required Certifications – RN

• BLS
• ACLS

💻 Charting / Equipment

• EPIC
• MERGE charting system

📞 Call Requirement – Very Important

For RN:

• 1 week of call every 3 weeks
• Weekday call: approximately 5:30 PM–7:30 AM
• Weekend call: 24 hours
• Holiday coverage is call only
• Manager may discuss alternatives if the call rotation is a deal breaker.

This is an important point to confirm with the candidate before submission.

📅 Scheduling

• 8-hour day shift
• 40 hours/week
• Weekend coverage is through call, not regular weekend shifts.
• Up to 7 days RTO can be approved.

🩺 Tech Requirements

If you're screening an IR/Cath Lab Tech instead of an RN:

• 2 years experience in Cath Lab or IR
• Must be able to scrub and record
• BLS required
• ARRT-R required for IR Tech
• ACLS preferred/required depending on tech role
