RN – Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg) 

1. Position Details

• Facility: Mercy Hospital South
• Location: 10010 Kennerly Rd, St. Louis, MO 63128
• Unit: 5 West Med-Surg
• Position: Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical-Surgical
• Shift: Night shift, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Schedule: 3 × 12-hour shifts or 4 × 12-hour shifts, depending on selected hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 or 48 hours per week — must be specified on the submission form
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Openings: 2
• Auto-offer: Yes, subject to facility approval
• Call Requirement: None
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, as required by the facility
• Floating: May float to other units depending on staffing needs

2. Required Qualifications

• Current RN license or eligibility for Missouri licensure.
• BLS certification from AHA — mandatory.
• Minimum 1 year of inpatient Med-Surg experience.
• Ability to provide direct patient care in a medical-surgical setting.

Preferred certification:

- ACLS from AHA.

3. Patient Population

The nurse will care for patients with:

• Gastrointestinal (GI) conditions
• Genitourinary (GU) conditions
• Wound care needs
• Acute withdrawal
• Altered mental status
• Dialysis and end-stage renal disease (ESRD)
• Minor surgical conditions

4. Unit Information

• Number of beds: 30
• Patient ratio: Approximately 1:6–1:7; ratios are not guaranteed.
• EMR: Epic
• Equipment: Alaris IV pumps, Kangaroo enteral feeding pumps, wound vacs, sequential compression devices (SCDs), PCA pumps, low-air-loss mattresses, and remote telemetry monitors.

5. Job Responsibilities

• Perform patient assessments, care planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Provide direct nursing care and monitor patient conditions.
• Coordinate care with other departments and healthcare professionals.
• Maintain accurate documentation and patient confidentiality.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of care provided by other caregivers.
• Follow the Missouri Nurse Practice Act and facility policies.
• Assist patients with medical, surgical, wound care, and other unit-specific needs.

6. Scheduling and Time-Off Requirements

• Night shift orientation is conducted during the day.
• The candidate must be available for the entire orientation week.
• Block scheduling may be approved based on facility requirements and must be included on the submission form.
• All requested time off (RTO) must be disclosed on the submission form.
• RTO of five days or less must be made up at the end of the assignment.
• Only one holiday RTO request may be made per assignment.

7. Dress Code

• Required scrub color: Black
• Leggings are not permitted.
• Other scrub colors are not accepted.

8. Flu Vaccination Requirements

From November 1 through April 1, travelers must have:

• A flu vaccination, or
• A Mercy-approved exemption.

Flu vaccine declinations are not accepted.

9. Local Rate and Offer Conditions

• Local candidates are accepted.
• Local candidate bill rate is $10 below the posted travel rate.
• Auto-offers are subject to facility approval.
• The facility may retract an offer within 48 hours.
