Job Details

• Specialty: Operating Room (OR) Surgical Technologist
• Facility: The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center
• Location: Columbus, Ohio

• Schedule: 3×12-hour shifts; variable 8-, 10-, or 12-hour shifts may be assigned
• Shift Timing: Between 6:30 PM and 7:00 AM
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Experience Required: 3 years
• Travel Experience: Required
• Certification: BLS
• Charting System: Epic preferred
• Trauma Experience: Level I trauma experience required in the position notes
• Orientation: 40 hours
• RTO: Must be submitted with the application and included in the contract
• Local Candidates: Accepted at the same rate

Must-Have Requirements

1. Minimum 3 years of OR Surgical Technologist experience.
2. Previous travel experience required.
3. BLS certification required.
4. Level I trauma experience required according to the position notes.
5. Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
6. Must be available for the required on-call rotation.
7. Must be comfortable with complex surgical instrumentation and a broad range of specialties.

Required Specialty Experience – Must Confirm

The facility specifically requests a Yes/No confirmation for the following:

• Eyes – Required
• Da Vinci Xi Robot – Required
• Liver Transplant – Required
• Neuro experience
• Orthopedic experience

Neuro and orthopedic experience are also important for the unit's case mix. Confirm each specialty and the candidate's actual hands-on scrubbing experience before submission.

Clinical Experience & Case Mix

The OR supports a Level I trauma environment and complex surgical cases, including:

• Orthopedic trauma and orthopedic spine
• Neurosurgery, including craniotomies and neuro spine
• Eye surgery and eye trauma
• Liver transplant and other transplant procedures
• Robotic surgery, including Da Vinci Xi
• Burn cases
• Bariatric surgery
• General, vascular, gynecologic, urologic, and thoracic procedures

Epic experience is preferred but not listed as mandatory.

Call Requirements

• Monday–Friday: 9:00 PM – 6:30 AM
• Saturday and Sunday: 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM – 6:30 AM
• Weekend shifts may be required as needed.
• Holiday coverage may be required.

Confirm that the candidate can accommodate the call schedule, including overnight call and weekend coverage.

Submission Requirements

• Two professional references.
• At least one reference must be from a manager, director, supervisor, or another formal leader.
• A charge nurse may serve as the second reference.
• Coworker references are not accepted.
• RTO must be disclosed at submission and built into the contract.
• Submit to one location only; the account management team will determine the best fit.

Strict Compliance Requirements

• Ohio fingerprinting must be completed urgently after contract signing.
• Candidates within driving distance but living outside Ohio must travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location as soon as possible.
• Candidates located far from Ohio will receive a fingerprinting packet that must be completed immediately upon receipt.
• Compliance deadline: Tuesday before the start date — no exceptions.
• Candidates who delay or fail to cooperate with credentialing risk a start-date push or cancellation.
• Screen for planned vacations immediately after booking because fingerprinting delays may affect the start date.
• Current employees at any Ohio State University hospital location are ineligible for a travel assignment.
• Former employees may qualify if they have been away from the facility for at least six months.
• Flu vaccine required; medical exemptions only.
• COVID-19 vaccine not required.
