Travel Contract – Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), NICU

Location: University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH), Albuquerque, NM

Position Requirements

• Required License: New Mexico Respiratory Therapist License (pending license accepted)
• Required Certifications: RRT, BLS, ACLS, NRP
• Trauma Experience: Level I Trauma experience required
• Clinical Experience: NICU and pediatric critical care
• Patient Volume: Average daily census of 6–10 ventilated patients

Required Clinical Skills

• NICU and pediatric critical care
• Endotracheal tube management and suctioning
• Extubation
• Nasal airway placement and suctioning
• Oral airway placement
• Oropharyngeal suctioning
• Sputum specimen collection
• Tracheostomy suctioning
• Pulmonary toileting
• Arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation

Schedule & Assignment Details

• Schedule: 36 hours per week
• Weekends: Required as needed by the unit; travelers will not be scheduled for more than 3 consecutive weekends.
• Floating: May float to the adult Respiratory Therapy (RRT) unit as needed.
• Block Scheduling: Not available.
• Overtime: Paid after 48 hours on all contracts, per facility policy.
• Facility Call-Offs: Facility may call off the clinician up to 3 times during a 13-week assignment.
• Contract Extensions: Minimum 10 weeks.

Holiday Requirements — Important

December start dates are not eligible for holiday RTO.

Travelers must work 2 out of the following 3 holiday bundles:

1. Thanksgiving Day and the day after Thanksgiving
2. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day
3. New Year's Eve and New Year's Day

Time-Off & Location Restrictions

• RTO: Requests exceeding 7 days require approval.
• Local Candidates: Not accepted within 100 miles of the facility.
• COVID-19 Vaccination: Optional. UNMH must report vaccination numbers; upload the vaccination series or an Aya declination form.
• Break Requirement: A 6-month break is required for travelers who have completed 4 consecutive assignments or reached the 1-year mark, whichever occurs first.
