Job Description – Emergency Department (ED) RN

Specialty: Emergency Department – Adult & Pediatric
Shift: Mid Shift, 10:45 AM – 11:15 PM
Schedule: 3 × 12-hour shifts per week
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of recent ED nursing experience.
• First-time travelers accepted.
• Must be comfortable caring for both adult and pediatric patients.
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS/BCLS, NIHSS, and PALS.
• Missouri (MO) or eligible compact RN license required; submission without an MO license may be accepted, subject to the stated licensing rules.
• Must be comfortable with a patient ratio of approximately 1:4.
• Experience with GlucoStabilizer is a special requirement.
• Pediatric ED experience preferred.

Key Clinical Skills

• General emergency care for adult and pediatric patients.
• Care of ventilated patients.
• Continuous IV sedation.
• Procedural sedation administration and monitoring.
• Interpretation and management of cardiac dysrhythmias.
• Patient triage and emergency assessment.
• Care for patients with abdominal pain, chest pain, stroke symptoms, and musculoskeletal injuries.
• Use of Level 1 infuser equipment.

Schedule & Weekend Requirements

• Every third weekend required.
• No on-call requirement.
• Block scheduling is not available.
• No floating requirement is listed in the unit-specific description; the general facility policy states that travelers may float within their service line.
• One pre-approved RTO may be accommodated, subject to confirmation.

Local & License Rules

• Candidates residing within a 75-mile radius are not accepted.
• Missouri candidates may be submitted without an active MO license, but the required MO or eligible compact license must be obtained as applicable.
• Compact license status must match the candidate’s permanent residence, or an update and ETA must be provided.
• Previous permanent BJC/Saint Luke’s employees must wait one year before returning as travelers.
• Returning travelers are subject to the stated 18-month tenure and three-month break policy.

Time-Off & Compliance Requirements

• Maximum 7 days of RTO without additional manager approval; more than 7 days and holiday RTO require approval.
• All RTO must be finalized at submission. No additional RTO or schedule requests after submission, offer, or start.
• No RTO during the first week.
• Compliance deadline: 3:00 PM CST on the Monday before the week of the start date.
• Labs must be completed within 48–72 hours of signing.
• Required modules are completed through WorkRamp before the start date; up to 16 hours are billable at $20/hour.
• Travelers must meet facial-hair requirements for fit testing or shave as required.
• COVID-19 vaccination is not required.
• Flu vaccination is required; medical or religious exemptions are permitted.
