Surgical Technologist – Travel Contract

Location: Chula Vista, California
Pay: $2,758 per week
Shift: 12-Hour Days
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Contract Duration: 13 weeks (90 days)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist for a travel contract opportunity in Chula Vista, California. The ideal candidate must have strong cardiac surgery experience and be proficient in orthopedic, neurosurgery, and robotic surgery procedures to support general operating room cases when cardiac cases are not scheduled.

The Surgical Technologist will provide patient care support and perform essential operating room duties while maintaining patient safety, procedural standards, and efficient surgical workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide patient care support and perform assigned duties within the operating room suite.
• Prepare for surgical procedures by following surgeon preference cards and anticipating procedural needs.
• Demonstrate knowledge of surgical procedures and assist with dressings and cast applications when required.
• Maintain accurate surgical counts and ensure all instruments and trays are accounted for.
• Complete required counts with relief personnel when appropriate and follow all established count policies.
• Report discrepancies or exceptions promptly.
• Update surgeon preference cards according to facility-specific processes.
• Identify problems independently and take appropriate action to support patient safety and improve quality of care.
• Participate in staff teaching and support departmental training activities.
• Contribute suggestions for process improvement and cost containment.
• Fulfill additional departmental responsibilities as assigned.
• Comply with facility policies, ethical standards, regulatory requirements, and mandatory training.
• Maintain required licenses, certifications, and compliance documentation within established timelines.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a scrub person in a hospital setting.
• Strong cardiac surgery experience.
• Proficiency in orthopedic, neurosurgery, and robotic surgery procedures.
• Ability to support general operating room cases when cardiac cases are not scheduled.
• BLS certification for Healthcare Providers required.
• High school education preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of an approved Operating Room Technician program or demonstrated technical skills through on-the-job training.
• Surgical Technologist/Scrub Tech certification preferred.
