Responsibilities

• Preoperative preparation: Verify patient identity, surgical consent, procedure details, allergies, and relevant clinical information before surgery.
• Patient safety: Participate in surgical time-outs, maintain patient safety protocols, and ensure correct-site and correct-procedure verification.
• Intraoperative nursing: Monitor the patient's condition, coordinate with the surgical team, and support safe operative care.
• Circulating duties: Coordinate operating room activities, document the procedure, maintain patient records, and ensure equipment and supplies are available.
• Scrubbing duties: Assist with sterile instrument handling and maintain the sterile field when assigned and appropriately trained.
• Sterile technique: Maintain aseptic practices and follow infection-prevention standards.
• Equipment management: Check surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment before and during procedures.
• Surgical counts: Participate in instrument, sponge, and sharps counts according to facility policy.
• Postoperative handoff: Communicate relevant patient information and procedural details to the recovery team.
• Emergency response: Assist with urgent surgical cases and respond to changes in patient condition.
• Documentation: Complete accurate operative documentation in Cerner SurgiNet.
• On-call coverage: Respond to emergency surgical needs during assigned call periods.
