Description
Neuro MedSurg/Telemetry RN — Assignment Details
Unit: 22-bed Neuro unit
Requirements
- At least 2 years of strong MedSurg/Telemetry experience
- Neuro experience and 1 completed travel assignment required
- Active Illinois RN license; active temporary IL license accepted
- AHA BLS, AHA ACLS and NIHSS
- Recent Epic experience required
- Strong neuro assessment, critical thinking and teamwork skills
Schedule and patient care
- Patients: Stroke/CVA, spine and back/neck surgery, cerebral angiogram and general medical overflow
- Ratios: Typically 1:4; may increase to 1:5 for two nurses when medical census is high
- Skills: NIHSS, dysphagia screening, telemetry interpretation, strict intake/output, catheter care, blood administration, venipuncture/blood cultures, NG tubes and drain management
- Drips: Stable drips; no amiodarone or Cardizem. Heparin initiation/titration is listed separately and needs clarification.
- Floating: May float to the medical unit
- Weekends/Holidays: Every other weekend and every other holiday
- On-call: None listed
