Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Burlingame, California

Job Description

  • Provide comprehensive, patient-family centered care following professional nursing standards.
  • Address potential and actual health and illness issues for patients and families.
  • Work under supervision of Nurse Manager/Director with opportunity for independent judgment.
  • Use nursing process to provide patient-centered care for assigned patients.
  • Serve as a primary member of the nursing care team, guiding and monitoring paraprofessional and other team members.
  • Work as part of a customer-focused, service-oriented team in a confidential environment.

Requirements

  • California RN Licensure
  • BLS (AHA) certification
  • ACLS certification
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Minimum 5 years recent experience in Telemetry unit (post-PCI patient care and Charge Nurse experience preferred)
  • Experience with EPIC charting and Pyxis Med system required
  • Willingness to precept if needed
  • Flexibility to care for Med-Surg and/or Telemetry patients in Overflow unit or Emergency Department as needed
  • Willingness to float between Med-Surg and Telemetry units

Shift Details

  • 3 shifts per week, 12-hour shifts (07:00 - 19:30)
  • May require working consecutive weekends if needed
  • No on-call requirement
  • No block scheduling
  • Cancellations handled in 4-hour blocks
  • Possible AM/NOC shifts with appropriate notice

Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS (AHA or ARC)
  • BLS (AHA or ARC)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (valid for 1-2 years)
  • Other certifications may be position-dependent (e.g., CCRN, TNCC, PALS, NRP)
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
  • Competency exams relevant to profession/unit (e.g., Dysrhythmia/EKG competency for Telemetry)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year background check including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and updated annually
  • Education verification (Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred)
  • Sex Offender Search within 90 days of start
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance for work
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days, renewed annually
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
    • Hepatitis B series or declination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov-April) or signed declination
  • Respiratory safety clearance prior to start, renewed annually
  • Color blindness exam if applicable (in-person exam required)
