PCU RN Travel Contract

Overview

• Specialty: Registered Nurse
• Location: Roanoke, Virginia
• Employment type: Travel/Contract
• Contract length: 26 weeks
• Shift: Night, 4x12 hours, 6:45 PM–7:15 AM
• Start schedule: May include every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
• Holiday requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
• Floating: Required within skillset
• First-time travelers: Accepted
• Local candidates: Accepted
• Pending license: Accepted only if the candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state; otherwise an active Virginia State or Compact RN/LPN license is required

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit (1 year of experience)
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
• Ventilator care for chronic tracheostomy patients
• Respiratory support: nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP
• Experience with Epic

Clinical Skills

• Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• Emergency response
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
• Medication administration, including cardiac drips without titration
• Respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP
• Rapid Response and Code team activation
• Isolation precautions
• Telemetry settings across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units

Unit Details

• Typical patient ratio: 1:5
• Staffing goal: 1:4
• Stepdown unit with bariatric specialty and backup to the trauma unit
• Chronic trach patients are cared for on the unit
• Remote telemetry monitoring is used
• Floating is within skillset

Additional Requirements

• Driver’s license or state ID required within 48 hours of signing
• E-Verify or attestation required
• 7-year background check required
• EPLS/GSA/SAM check required
• HHS/OIG check required
• Education verification of highest earned degree required
• NURSYS verification required for all RNs
• Photo for badge required
• Access and confidentiality agreement required within 48 hours of signing
• New hire paperwork required before start
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask testing within 1 year of start and updated annually
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
• TB questionnaire required
• Measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and varicella immunity or vaccination documentation required
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• 2 clinical references required
• Application/resume required
• Skills checklist required and updated annually
