Operating Room Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Primarily focused on Orthopedic skillsets (approximately 75% ortho cases)
  • Day shift (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM) with possible night shift rotation (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Possible off-shifting 1-3 shifts per 4-week period, but often no off-shifting available
  • Weeknight call: 1-2 nights per week on average
  • Weekend call: approximately every 4-5 weeks (24-hour shift on Saturday or Sunday, 1-2 days per month)
  • Block scheduling is not accommodated
  • Scrubs provided by the facility
  • Facility is 100% nicotine-free
  • Locals not accepted; candidate must live more than 100 miles from the facility

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Orientation & Training

  • Bi-weekly orientation provided

Facility & Work Environment

  • Acute care teaching hospital with complex patient population
  • Parking permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply
  • Call-back pay applies only if called back after leaving the facility post-shift
  • Extended shifts due to census or case overruns paid at regular/overtime rates, no clocking out/in

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • Background check within 30 days of start, updated annually (includes multi-county, statewide, nationwide, sex offender, federal checks)
  • SAM and OIG checks required within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter
  • Education verification required
  • State-specific abuse/neglect registry check required within 30 days of start
  • Primary source license verification and NURSYS verification required prior to start
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
  • Annual skills checklist required
  • Two professional references from the past 2 years required
  • Drug screen within 60 days of start and updated annually (urine panel including multiple substances)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually (specific 3M models required)
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap within last 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray with TB questionnaire if history positive, updated annually
    • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers (boosters if low/equivocal titers)
    • Hepatitis B titer or declination
    • 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer (boosters if low/equivocal titers)
    • Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
    • COVID vaccine preferred (medical/religious exemption or declination accepted)
  • Baseline eye exam (Snellen) required within 30 days of start (OR staff only)
