Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • 36-hour workweek option (3 shifts of 12 hours, day shift 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
  • Must be prepared to float frequently to meet hospital staffing needs, including to multiple units such as Medical Surgical, Telemetry, Ortho, Neuro, Trauma, and Behavioral Health floors. Floating may include different campuses.
  • Patient population includes orthopedic cases (Total Knee and Hip replacements), pulmonary, sepsis, GI, endocrine, cardiac, renal, psychiatric illnesses, and behavioral health patients (including potentially violent patients with detox, dementia, etc.).
  • Unit is a 20-bed general medical surgical and telemetry unit with a secured floor for behavioral health patients.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5 on days, 1:6 on nights (rarely 1:7 nights).
  • Drip management required on all floors.
  • EPIC electronic charting experience required.
  • 100% nicotine-free facility.
  • Weekend shifts required: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat nights).
  • Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
  • Locals not accepted; candidate must live more than 100 miles from the facility.
  • Pending license accepted but must be in hand at time of submission to avoid delayed start.
  • Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation).
  • Parking permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking option.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse license valid in Nebraska (pending license accepted with conditions).
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital setting.
  • Prior travel experience: First-time travelers NOT accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
  • BLS certification required.
  • ACLS and CPI certifications preferred.
  • Experience with drips and telemetry patients required.
  • EPIC charting experience required.
  • Must be comfortable caring for behavioral health patients and trained in safety and de-escalation techniques (training provided).

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required.
  • Background check within 30 days of start, including multi-county and nationwide checks.
  • SAM and OIG checks required within 30 days of start and monthly thereafter.
  • Education verification required.
  • State-specific abuse/neglect registry check required.
  • Primary source license verification and NURSYS verification required prior to start.
  • Annual physical exam and fit mask test (3M 1860 Small/Regular or 3M 1870+) required.
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tdap within last 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray with TB questionnaire if history positive
    • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers (boosters if low/equivocal)
    • Hepatitis B titer or declination
    • 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer (boosters if low/equivocal)
    • Drug screen within 60 days of start and annually (urine panel including multiple substances)
    • Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
    • COVID vaccine preferred (medical/religious exemption or declination accepted)
  • Annual skills checklist required.
  • 2 professional references from work within the past 2 years required.

Additional Information

  • Up to two weeks of Return to Origin (RTO) time permitted; must be requested with application.
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgement required.
  • Facility is a top-rated acute care hospital with a teaching affiliation and complex patient population.

This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs comfortable with diverse patient populations, frequent floating, and working in a high-acuity, urban hospital environment.
